GNF is a world-renowned leader in the development and application of enabling technologies to accelerate biomedical research.
A postdoctoral fellowship is offered in the Musculoskeletal Biology and Bioimaging group, Genetics department, at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation (GNF) in La Jolla, CA.
The successful candidate will join a growing group focused on disease mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities in the musculoskeletal system. The biology of muscle stem cells and other progenitor populations is a major topic of current interest, as are the contributions of metabolic/neuronal dysfunction and degenerative host responses (fibrosis, atrophy) to musculoskeletal disease.
We take advantage of GNF-specific technologies to identify key biological regulators and target pathways in these disease settings. This work is accelerated by constant collaborative interaction with biology, chemistry, and bioinformatics colleagues within and outside GNF.
Experience/Professional Requirement:
? Thorough familiarity with mammalian genetics, primary cell culture, and basic molecular/cell biology is required
? Experience with flow cytometry, bioinformatics, or microscopy techniques is desirable
? Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively
? Experience within the musculoskeletal field would be helpful but is not absolutely required
Minimum requirements
Ph.D., M.D., or M.D. /Ph.D., with significant expertise in some aspect of stem cell biology, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals.
